Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight was this evening selected as the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) candidate for the Christchurch South constituency.
She defeated Christopher Alleyne 135 votes to 5 at a nomination meeting at St. Christopher’s Primary School on Saturday night. Three ballots were discarded.
Minister Munro-Knight, who has responsibility for cultural affairs, accepted the nomination with great honour and praised the team that worked with her on the campaign.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” she said, adding: “I walk, I earn this.”
The position became vacant in February this year after former BLP representative Ralph Thorne switched to the Democratic Labour Party as Opposition Leader. (Saturday)
