According to videos posted on social media, the protest escalated into violence, with two police officers beating a young woman to death after she carried two kilograms of crab meatballs across the border. After the incident, Banteay Meanchey provincial administrator Nong Vuthy told CamboJA that the cause of the dispute was that the people towing the trucks brought the goods into Cambodia without paying taxes.
