A group of development-minded Mzimba Malawians have emerged to put pressure on the Inkosia Makosi Mbewa V District to ask the government to divide the district into five districts to facilitate development.

The group, led by political activist Samuel Lwara, blames the lack of development on the area’s large size.
Lawala confirmed the development in an interview on Wednesday, arguing that the Ngoni Kingdom had failed to develop the region and it was time for the government to take over.
“Our Ngoni chiefs have failed us. Their greed is ruining the region. They have to allow government to divide the region into four or five so that development can benefit the people,” he said.
Lwara expects that the demarcation of new districts will accelerate development as the government will be forced to build hospitals, schools and other buildings in all new districts.
He noted that Phalombe District was one of the districts ceded from Mulanje District which started receiving exclusive allocations from the government.
“Our chiefs should start thinking progressively. They should not be swayed by selfishness and greed in making decisions. We need to demarcate Mzimba now and it should be done yesterday. Otherwise the area will never develop,” he challenged.
Inkosi ya Makosi M’mbelwa V was not immediately available for comment.
