Starting June 4, Southwest Airlines will offer daily nonstop flights between Juan Santamaria Airport and Orlando, Florida. The flight will depart Costa Rica at 8:55 a.m. and arrive in Orlando at 2:15 p.m. The return flight will leave the U.S. city at 11:30 a.m. and arrive in Santamaria at 12:45 p.m.

This particular route has great potential to increase tourist traffic between Costa Rica and the United States, as many Costa Ricans use it to go to shopping destinations and visit attractions such as the Disney and Universal theme parks.

Data from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) shows that the number of tourists traveling to Costa Rica from the United States increased by nearly 50% between 2014 and 2023, with more than 1.4 million passengers traveling by air last year.

“With over 60 percent of tourists coming to Costa Rica being Americans, it is very important to make sure we have new connections with this city, which is vital not only for tourism exports but also for what it holds and represents in the United States,” said Tourism Secretary William Rodriguez.
