An ice cream kiosk in Turku is often the target of vandalism during the summer.

Earlier this week, the Drolls kiosk in Lönnrotinpuisto in Turku was broken into. Just three days earlier, the kiosk had to be completely refurbished due to vandalism.

Kiosk Entrepreneur Mohammed Diril It is said that the kiosk had to be completely renovated due to the damage of the kiosk walls and the rainwater flowing into the kiosk. Due to the renovation, the kiosk had to be closed for a whole day and a new faith was injected.

– Diril said that three days after the renovation, the kiosk was broken into.

Diril estimated that the thieves were targeting money or other valuables. However, the self-service terminals do not store cash or payment terminals, etc.

– Diril said that when the money was not found, the inside of the kiosk was in disarray.

The thief also took some Kinder Bueno packages and Oreos. Luckily, the thief didn’t damage anything.

The police had time to go to the newsagents that evening and leave a notice at the start.

Police are investigating

Crime Commissioner Alexi Surko The Southwest Finland Police confirmed that a criminal complaint had been filed on August 6. The matter is being investigated as a suspected theft. Currently, the case has entered the preliminary hearing stage.

– Police are trying to find out if there are still conditions to continue with the preliminary investigation. For example, if there are cameras recording in the area, we will try to find out if there is any identifying information about the perpetrators recorded, Surko said.

According to Surko, it is unfortunately common for places like ice cream stands to be broken into and attempted to look for property to steal.

You can’t prepare

Diril does not believe that anyone who breaks into the kiosk will be caught. The kiosk is located behind a tree in the park, and although the area is basically monitored by cameras, the likelihood of identifying the person behind the tree is slim.

The first act of vandalism occurred even before the kiosk opened its doors for the first time. Diril said on the ice cream kiosk’s Tiktok account that he was replacing the tin tray under the kiosk with a rubber mat. After the video was posted, someone ripped off the rubber mat and had to replace it with a new one.

Diril said there was absolutely no way to prepare for the vandalism in advance.

The kiosk didn’t have to close due to the recent break-ins, but business continued as normal during the day and Diril fixed the locks at night.

– As we all know, you always have to be ready to repair or paint, Diril sighed.
