Mithila Painting Exhibition at United Nations Headquarters New York

Kathmandu. Currently, an exhibition of Nepalese Mithila paintings is being held at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The exhibition started last week and will last until next Wednesday.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Denis Francis, President of the 78th United Nations General Assembly, with the slogan “Mitthila Heritage for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”.

The demonstration was organized by the Mithila Center of the United States, the Permanent Mission of Nepal and the Consulate General of Nepal in New York. The purpose of the exhibition was said to be to convene a high-level meeting on the Sustainable Development Goals.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Nepal’s ambassador to the United Nations Lok Bahadur Thapa said the Mithila paintings symbolically convey the impact of climate change and should be taken seriously.

Mithila artist Prateek Rayamazhi said Mithila art is connected with nature and its effects are brought out through paintings. Mithila art of SK Suman, Prateek Rayamazhi, Nupur Nisith, Shaili Jha, Shivangi Singh, Manisha Sah, Selo Yadav, Sudhira Karna, Komal Purve, Nirmala Ram, Manjula Thakur, Sebti Mandal and Amrita Dutt will be displayed in the exhibition.
