San Pedro wins Town Council of the Year title

For all the efforts and accomplishments that the San Pedro Town Council has made to improve Ambergris Caye, last week the Town Council was honored with the Town Council of the Year Award.
The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government hosted an awards ceremony to recognize outstanding stakeholders who have made significant contributions to the Ministry’s mission to serve the people of Belize.
This year’s recipients include the Social Security Board, San Pedro Town Council, Belize Water Company, Seine Bay Village Council, Cotton Tree Village Council, San Narciso Village Council, Caye Caulker Village Council, Gold Creek Village Council, August Pine Ridge Village Council, Progreso Village Water Authority, San Lazaro Village Water Authority, San Miguel Village Water Authority and San Antonio Village Water Authority.

They are recognized for their exceptional service, for doing ordinary things exceptionally well, and for providing outstanding service to the community as partners in the ministry.

San Pedro launches national health insurance

Residents of La Isla Bonita will now have access to affordable healthcare through the National Health Insurance (NHI) program. According to the government, Belizeans in San Pedro will be able to purchase primary healthcare services from two health facilities – the San Pedro Urgent Care Center and the San Carlos Medical Center. Primary healthcare services provided by these facilities include general medical consultations, non-communicable disease (NCD) diagnosis and treatment, screening, reproductive health, and other support services such as pharmacy, laboratory, and imaging.

San Pedro takes over 2024 Band Festival

San Pedro High School and RC School took top honors at the 2024 Band Festival held in Cayo San Ignacio last weekend. San Pedro High School took first place, San Pedro RC School took third place, and the Independence High School Marching Band took second place.
Shout out to SP RC. The school was the only elementary school to compete against high school performers for best band.



Oh, and traffic jams

…Another large container truck got stuck on Tarpon Street on Saturday, adding to the frustration of islanders who have been stuck in traffic jams for so long. San Pedro’s traffic problems never end.
