Argentine President Javier Mille said in Prague on Monday that he “may” win a Nobel Prize for “rewriting economic theory” as his government reportedly managed to rescue the South American country from hyperinflation and put it back on track. In addition to his political contacts with Czech authorities, Mille’s visit has also sparked another controversy over his new honor, which the organization behind it said had nothing to do with.

Martin Panek, director of the Prague Liberty Institute and currently president of the Anglo-American University in the Czech capital, explained that Jiri Schwarz had mistakenly arranged the award in the name of the institute, with which he had no connection for many years, despite being one of its founders.

“That guy is a fraud,” Panek said of Schwartz, acknowledging that the institute was considering legal action. “We had nothing to do with that event, and we had no involvement in it,” he stressed. Panek also claimed that “awarding this award to Millais was premature.”

Organizational issues aside, Millet said at the award ceremony that he and his chief adviser, Demian Redel, were nominated for the Nobel Prize for “rewriting a large part of economic theory.” Argentina’s first economist president also explained that he was reviewing some basic concepts with Redel that could win them the prestigious award.

Millais also highlights the influence of writers such as Gary Becker on his BroadCast Unitedlectual work, and admits that he once removed one of his paintings to make room for his pets Murray, Milton, Robert and Lucas.

Ahead of the ceremony, Milley met separately with conservative Prime Minister Peter Fiala and President Peter Pavel, a retired general, to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss aid to Kiev in Ukraine’s war with Russia.

In an interview with Buenos Aires broadcaster Radio, Milley also said opposition lawmakers who delayed final approval of the so-called bases law were “coup plotters.” The president blamed these political obstacles on “the whole situation, which has affected the bond market, with bond prices falling and the risk of the country rising.”

Milei also explained that “the appreciation of the dollar is not due to currency problems or problems in the foreign exchange market.” He said his government’s social policies have met the challenge. Otherwise, “it would have been a disaster,” he stressed.

“There is no country in the world that does not recognize the great efforts we have made to reduce inflation, and the fiscal adjustments we are making,” he added. He also claimed that the policy food inflation of 0% in the third week of June “means that we are on the right path, and there is still a long way to go, but there are signs that things are working.” He also denied that another devaluation of the peso is being considered, because Argentina’s competitiveness problems “cannot be solved by devaluation”. In addition, he insisted that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) did not call for a 30% devaluation, as reported in some media.
