“This is already my fifth year as president and I am doing what I clearly announced during the campaign. That is, I will not celebrate this so-called holiday, which is actually a selfish party ritual passed by the then parliament that convened with a corrupt symbolic majority. So, today is Parliament Day, not a national day,” said Milanovic, who was attending the Zagreb City Day ceremony.
Sina recalled that Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandrokovic and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic criticized President Milanovic and parts of the opposition for not participating in the Statehood Day celebrations, calling it sad and irresponsible and a disrespect for the country and its laws.
Milanovic claimed that May 30 does not unite them and is not statehood day, adding that Plenkovic “certainly did not vote for the HDZ in the 90s”.
“They are trying to impose this day as a holiday. It is a party celebration, which we got rid of gracefully 20 years ago and took the move to call the referendum day the statehood day, which is the closest thing to statehood day that the Croatian parliament has declared amid his efforts and turmoil,” he commented.
Milanovic added: “I will not stop anyone from celebrating this holiday. For twenty years, we have been celebrating statehood day. And then this person comes and says that when the SDF wins the majority, it will be held in parliament.”
He accused the prime minister of considering sacred things like the national anthem, a symbol of Croatia, meaningless to him, and he said the anthem could be seen today during the Zagreb Day celebrations.
“Who rushed in with his entourage when the national anthem started? Plenkovic, this is not sacred to him, it’s not the first time he has done this, he observed protocol, was late and then rushed in with his Alibaba entourage. That’s a Krkanluk. “When you are late on purpose, you wait. You are late, you are rude, you don’t respect the host, but at least you respect the national anthem,” he commented.
He called Plenkovic a “third-category diplomat” and a political bastard who “is inventing a new constitution after 15 years of doing nothing in diplomacy.”
He said Plenkovic had for years been usurping the constitutional powers of the president and the government to cooperate on foreign policy.
“He keeps repeating that I am a violator of the constitution. He has clearly violated the letter and spirit of the constitution,” Milanovic said, claiming that Plenkovic is Croatia’s biggest abuser of the constitution.
“Tomorrow I will warn those ambassadors who act on the instructions of Plenkovic and Radman that if I disagree, they will be committing a serious crime,” he added, assessing that his knowledge of the situation from a Croatian-sponsored newspaper was not correct.
