MIFCO will distribute three tons of ice free of charge to each ship by tomorrow.
MIFCO said the ice would be released until stocks were depleted to encourage fishermen to catch more fish.
While fishermen complain about the lack of easy-to-make ice, increasing ice-making plants is also a big goal of the current government.
The Ministry of Finance today floated a tender for setting up ice plants in 11 villages and plans to set up new ice plants in five villages.
