Meta has launched two new monetization features for eligible creators in Kenya, enabling them to earn money through in-stream ads on Facebook and ads on Facebook Reels. These features enable creators to monetize their original videos and build communities.
Commenting on the launch, Moon Baz, Meta’s Head of Global Partnerships for Africa, Middle East and Turkey, expressed admiration for African creators who are using Facebook to share their stories, connect with others and bring people together.
She stressed that the expansion will enable creators in Kenya’s creative industries to monetize their work, set a global standard for creativity, and position Meta’s app as an essential tool for all creators.
Eligible creators can monetize their video and reels content, with support available in over 30 languages around the world, including Swahili.
Meta details the various places where in-stream ads can appear in on-demand videos, whether they are pre-recorded or recorded from a previous live stream. These ads can be pre-roll ads that play before the video starts, mid-roll ads that play during the video, image ads that appear below the content, and post-roll ads that appear after the video ends.
In addition to in-stream ads, ads on Facebook Reels can also be seamlessly integrated into existing Reels, allowing creators to earn money based on the performance of their content.
To use these monetization tools, creators must comply with Facebook’s Partner Monetization Policy and Content Monetization Policy, be 18 years of age or older, and, for in-stream ads, have at least 5,000 followers. This move provides an important opportunity for Kenyan creators to benefit financially from their creations.
