Mayorkas to report on immigrants suspected of terrorism

WASHINGTON (LPL/Latin Times) – The lower house has subpoenaed Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to provide information about immigrants suspected of terrorism found at the southern border.

Mark Green, the Republican chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, wrote in a letter attached to the subpoena that committee members have been requesting such information for more than a year “without a mandatory process.”

The subpoena requires Mayorkas to provide the information by July 19, and Green said he and two other Republicans requested “specific documents and information related to fugitives and illegal aliens from terrorist detection databases found at the southwest border since January 2021.” However, he added that they encountered several security barriers and excuses that prevented the disclosure of information.

The order comes as U.S. intelligence and security officials arrested eight Tajik men earlier this month with possible ties to the Islamic State group, also known as ISIS or ISIS, and stepped up their focus on the country’s southern border.

Mark Green, the Republican chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, wrote in a letter accompanying the subpoena that committee members have been asking for such information for more than a year “without a mandatory process.”

The order comes as U.S. intelligence and security officials increase their focus on the country’s southern border following the arrest of eight Tajik men earlier this month with possible ties to the Islamic State, also known as IS or ISIS.
