Eight people have been confirmed dead and several others injured in a shooting incident at the Cherry Tree Lane community in Four Paths, Clarendon, Jamaica, on Sunday evening.
While the exact circumstances are unclear, the incident is believed to be related to an ongoing feud between rival gangs.
A little boy was reportedly among the dead. At least 17 people were shot. As of midnight, nine people were being treated for injuries in hospitals.
National Security Minister Dr Teo expressed “deep sorrow” over the incident.
“It is with deep sorrow that I extend my condolences to the families affected by the tragic incident at Cherry Tree Lane on Clarendon Four Roads. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time,” Mr Chang said in a statement.

“We are committed to supporting the community and our dedicated police officers who work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice,” he continued. “Police have made significant progress in Clarendon, with murders down 39 per cent compared to last year. However, incidents like this remind us that our work is far from over.”
Prime Minister convenes National Security Council
Prime Minister Andrew Holness plans to hold a National Security Council (NSC) meeting on Monday morning to discuss the brutal attack.

“I condemn this abhorrent, brutal and senseless attack which has claimed the lives of several people in Clarendon. I extend my deepest condolences to all the families affected by this tragedy. I have spoken to police high command and have advised that every effort must be made to bring the perpetrators to justice as quickly as possible,” Holness said.
“The Government of Jamaica will not tolerate such barbaric acts against our people. We will strongly fight back,” he continued.
The Prime Minister said the shooting was a reminder that although about 17% Fewer murders To achieve this year’s target, Government must persevere and intensify its efforts to crack down on criminal gangs across Jamaica.
“We will not relent in our efforts to reduce crime, and we will not surrender our society to criminals. I want to assure the country that my government will continue to pursue a multi-pronged approach to support security forces in further successfully reducing violent crime,” Holness said.
The Prime Minister also called on anyone with information about the shooting in Cherry Tree Lane, Clarendon to come forward to police.
