MAS National Secretary General Felipe Mujica has expressed regret over the recent statements of Táchira State Governor Freddy Bernal, according to which there is no reason to believe that Nicolás Maduro will be defeated and, if so, he will have to resign due to the actions taken by the followers of the PSUV candidate if the new government lasts less than a year.

“Just two weeks before the presidential election, we reject the statements of Governor Táchira as he continues to persist on the path of violence,” he warned.

Mujica denounced the authoritarian measures taken by the national government over the weekend against opposition activities, arresting political leaders in the states of Monagas, Portuguesa and Lara. Likewise, he denounced the tax regulations and the closure of commercial establishments in Valencia, following calls by candidates Edmundo González and María Corina Machado.

“Everywhere the government has put up obstacles, the public has responded in huge numbers to support candidates with a unified platform.”

However, the leader of the Orange Awnings endorsed the statements of the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, who assured that if Maduro is defeated there will be no question of ignoring the election results.

“This line is the electoral line and we must defend it. We must vote on July 28 for candidate Edmundo González because he guarantees the restoration of everything that Venezuela has lost.

The Secretary-General called on the Movement for Socialism to put aside violent intentions and reach a peaceful negotiated solution to achieve reconciliation among the Venezuelan people.
He approved the commitment to voting and civic participation, stressing that the Orange Awning Party is the only party that has participated in all electoral processes for 53 years.

“They can cancel our cards but no one is going to remove MAS from the electoral path and the voting route,” he said.

Mujica reiterated that Venezuelans have the opportunity on July 28 to choose a political option that ensures a change of power, a democratic mechanism that the official sector has refused to accept for 25 years.

He explained that the reconstruction of the country involves developing a solid economic system capable of creating new jobs, paying fair wages without social control, and providing adequate incentives for companies and the millions of Venezuelans who have emigrated back home.

Finally, Mujica condemned the attacks against former US President and re-election candidate Donald Trump.
