Kathmandu, June 31. Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez won the 2024 America’s Cup “Golden Glove” award.
Martinez played a major role in helping Argentina win a record 16th Copa America title, becoming the tournament’s best goalkeeper, conceding just one goal in six games.
Argentina won the title unbeaten and had six wins. Goalkeeper Martinez kept a clean sheet in five games and did not score. In the group stage, Argentina defeated Canada 2-0, Chile 1-0, and Peru 2-0. Similarly, Argentina defeated Canada 2-0 in the semi-finals and Colombia 1-0 in the final, with Martinez keeping a clean sheet.
Martinez, who scored just one goal in the Carter final against Ecuador, also performed well in the penalty shootout, making two saves after the scheduled 90-minute match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Martinez has performed well in international competitions for Argentina. He won the 2021 and 2024 America’s Cups and the 2022 World Cup with Argentina. He won the Golden Glove Award for best goalkeeper in all three major tournaments.
Goalkeeper Martinez, who currently plays for Premier League team Aston Villa, kept 32 clean sheets in 45 games for Argentina. He scored 17 goals and made 75 saves. He won 34 games and drew 9 games. They lost only two games.
