Martin Fayulu, the runner-up in the December 30 presidential election, has rejected the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, declaring Felix Tshisekedi the winner.

Mr Fayulu said the results had “nothing to do with the truth of the polls”.

“Despite these measures imposed frantically and irresponsibly by INEC, we have never stopped demanding democratic rotation and building together a dignified and prosperous Congo,” Mr. Fayulu said.

He called on the Episcopal Conference of the Democratic Republic of Congo (CENCO) and the Congolese Christian Conference (ECC) to publish the results of their observation missions so that Congolese people know who the real winners are.

“Together, let us say no to the tampering of results and electoral delays. To all those who know the truth about the ballot box through historical observation, especially CENCO and ECC, we ask you to publish to the Congolese people and the world the name of the person who truly represents the choice of our people,” said Mr. Fayulu.

The Ramuka Alliance candidate came in second in the presidential election with 35.2% of the vote, ahead of outgoing ruling party candidate Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary, who came in third with 23.8%.

According to data released by the Independent Electoral Commission, Felix Tshisekedi won the presidential election with 38.57% of the votes.
