Estonian weightlifter Mat Seim finished ninth in the super heavyweight category at the Paris Olympics. Georgian Laša Talahhadze won his third consecutive OM gold medal.
Seim only knew he was going to Paris in June, and on Saturday he lifted 180 kg and pressed 220 kg. Seim’s chest weighed 237 kg, but he didn’t put weight on his upper body, so his total weight was 400 kg, which Japanese Eishiro Murakami could also do.
Algerian Walid Bidami limited himself to tearing once without success and retired from the competition. 39-year-old Czech Kamil Kucera went to Paris just to get the result, and that’s how the Estonian entered the top ten of the OM competition for the second time. At the Rio Olympics, Seim finished seventh with 430 kg.
Georgian super heavyweight star Lasa Tarakhadze won his third consecutive Olympic title, even though he was not at his best on Saturday, but still managed to lift a total of 470 kg (215 kg + 255 kg). The Georgian strongman became the fifth weightlifter to win three Olympic titles.
Armenian weightlifter Varazda Larajan (215 kg + 252 kg = 467 kg) won the silver medal, and Gol Minasjan (216 kg + 245 kg = 461 kg) representing Bahrain won the bronze medal.
