The Mangochi District Councillor has hailed the District Governor, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy-Chakwera, as an extraordinary district governor who has strongly supported the social and economic development of the people of Lakeside District.

The MPs made the remarks on Thursday, July 18, 2024, when President Chakwera met with Mangochi District MPs at Chikoko Bay State Lodge, Mangochi.
Hawa Wasi Daoud, MP for the Msukamwel district in Mangochi, said Malawi had had presidents from the southern region before, “but we have never seen such developments in Mangochi.”

The Chairman of the Mangochi District Council, Councillor Hassan Chiptah, has commended President Chakwera for launching the construction of the Mangochi-Makangira road, saying the move will open up the region to neighbouring Mozambique.
He also thanked the Malawian leader for building modern houses for security personnel in the area.

“There are many positive developments happening in Mangochi at the moment. This is exactly what happened during the administration of the late President Dr. Ngwazi Hastings Kamuzu Banda. We thank you for changing Mangochi,” he said.
“We have had presidents before, but this administration led by Chakwera is very unique.”
The lawmakers also took turns to thank Chakwera for being a reasonable president who was willing to work with all despite their different political portfolios.
They also praised Chakwera for distributing the fruits of development equally to the people of Malawians without regard to politics.
The Mayor of Mangochi, Honourable Imaan Chisuse, has called on the President to push for the construction of more markets to help decongest the main market in Mangochi.
He pleaded with the President to consider giving them a chance to import a car duty-free.
In his speech, President Chakwera assured the MPs that his government will complete all the development works he promised to the people of Mangochi.
“There may be delays, but rest assured, all this construction will be completed very quickly,” he said.
President Chakwera also assured the lawmakers that he would continue to engage with them to resolve pressing issues affecting their subjects.
