PM Modi’s Plan Chaired the 9th Board Meeting of India’s National Transformation Agency (NITI Aayog) on Saturday discussed the agenda of making India a developed country by 2047.
“The Governing Council meeting on July 27, 2024 will discuss the approach document for the ‘Ambition India 2047’ vision document… The meeting will also discuss in detail the role of the states in achieving the objectives of ‘Ambition India 2047’,” the Indian government said in a statement.
The meeting will also focus on the recommendations of the third national chief secretaries’ conference held in December last year.
The committee is chaired by the Prime Minister and comprises chief ministers of states, lieutenant governors of union territories and several union ministers.
However, several chief ministers of opposition-ruled states, including MP Stalin of Tamil Nadu and Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh, decided not to approve the Union Budget in protest against it, claiming that it was “anti-Federal” in spirit and “extremely discriminatory” against their states.
Here are the most important updates:
— Several BJP chief ministers, including Tamil Nadu chief minister, DMK’s MK Stalin, Kerala chief minister and Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Pinarayi Vijayan, Punjab chief minister, AJP’s Bhagwant Mann and all three chief ministers of the Congress party — Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah, Himachal Pradesh’s Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Telangana’s Revanth Reddy, have decided to boycott the meeting, slamming the central government for preparing a biased budget to cater to its allies JD(U) and TDP.
– On boycotting NITI committee meeting, Stalin said, “The budget presented by the finance minister seems to be a revenge against the states and people who boycotted the BJP. She has prepared a budget to retaliate against those who voted for the Hindu Bloc. The BJP Union government has been ignoring Tamil Nadu.”
– However, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided She decided to attend the NITI committee meeting to stand out from the opposition alliance.
– Banerjee said she would attend the meeting and use the opportunity to register her protest against the “discriminatory budget” and “conspiracy to divide West Bengal and other opposition-ruled states”.
– According to the TMC, the Central government owes Bengal Rs 176,000 crore and the state is struggling to pay its Awas Yojana and MGNREGA dues. Party insiders feel that the Aayog meeting will be the right platform for the Chief Minister to raise the issue.
“The attitude of their ministers and BJP leaders is that they want to divide Bengal. Apart from economic blockade, they also want to impose geographical blockade. Different statements have been made by different leaders trying to divide Jharkhand, Bihar and Bengal. We condemn this. We want to put our voice on record and I will do so,” Banerjee said.
– Mamata Banerjee also slammed the public policy think tank set up by the Modi government and demanded the abolition of the Indian Government Think Tank and reinstatement of the Planning Commission. “Since the Indian Government Think Tank Plan was set up, I have not seen any work being done because they do not have any power. There was a Planning Commission before. As a chief minister… I saw there was a system then. I will raise my voice and demand that this Indian Government Think Tank be stopped. They do not have any financial power. They cannot do anything except to show up for a meeting once a year. Please reinstate the Planning Commission,” Banerjee said, “she said.
– In addition, Banerjee confirmed that Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren will also attend the important meeting. “Hemant (Soren) and I will be present at the meeting. We will speak on behalf of others (who will not attend),” she said.
– However, the Congress party, which is part of the JMM-led coalition government in the state, objected to the chief minister’s participation in the meeting.
– Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states will attend the meeting. However, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, an NDA ally, has not yet confirmed his attendance.
