The Indian cricket team has just won the T20 World Championship and the country’s tourism association and its marketing and public relations company have invited them to the Maldives to celebrate their victory. The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final to lift the trophy in Barbados on June 29. “The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Company (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) in partnership with the Maldives Association of Tourism (MATI) have jointly extended a special open invitation to the Indian national cricket team,” the two agencies said in a joint statement.

MMPRC CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree and MATI Secretary General Ahmed Nazeer said they were looking forward to hosting the team which returned to India last Thursday.

The team was welcomed by enthusiastic fans in Delhi and Mumbai, with Mumbai holding a victory parade attended by hundreds of thousands of fans.

“We are honored to host you and ensure that your stay is filled with unforgettable moments, relaxation and tailor-made experiences,” Shiuree and Nazeer said in a joint statement.

They said the invitation also highlights the strong and long-standing cultural and sporting ties between the Maldives and India.

“It will be a great honour for the Maldives to welcome the Indian cricket team and share in their joy of victory,” Siri added.

He added: “We eagerly await the opportunity to host them and provide them with the perfect setting to create lasting memories of their victory celebrations.”

The team is currently resting. Its next international assignment is a six-match limited-overs series against Sri Lanka starting on July 27. The series includes three ODIs and multiple T20 Internationals.
