Major fire breaks out in central London – Somerset House burns down

A major fire broke out in central London on Saturday.

Around 125 firefighters and 20 fire engines are working to extinguish the blaze at the historic Somerset House arts centre on the banks of the Thames.

A ladder truck with a 32-meter ladder was also brought to the scene.

Somerset House writes Messaging services in Xall center staff and the public are safe.

Somerset House manager says BBC:lleall the valuable artworks in the center are also safe. According to the director, the fire started on the west side of the building, where there are no artworks.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear on Saturday.

The fire department was notified and rushed to the scene before noon local time.

Photos and videos taken from central London showed thick smoke rising from buildings.

The grounds of Somerset House host concerts in the summer and are used as an ice skating rink in the winter. The building, which opened in 1796, has also appeared in several films, including two James Bond movies.
