There were seven winners in the must-win drawing on June 8, each taking home $7.2 million.
Two of them claimed the jackpot the next day (Sunday, June 9), but it wasn’t until last week that The final winner came on stage to receive his share of the prize money.
One of the children of the winning couple, who wished to remain anonymous, said the family held a meeting to share the good news.
“They’ve been slowly doing some renovations on the house and now they’re able to finish it,” the child said of the award-winning parents.
“But we really wanted them to be able to do something for themselves. They’ve been talking about a special trip overseas and now they can do it, which is great for them,” said another child.
Since then, other Powerball jackpot winners have included $4.5 million won by a MyLotto player in Waikato on June 12, and $5.5 million won by a physical ticket purchased in Waitara on June 19.
What to do if you win
If ticket holders purchase their tickets through MyLotto, they will know immediately if they have won a prize. Prizes of $1,000 or less will be automatically credited to their account.
For prizes over $1,000, winners must complete an online prize form.
The results will be announced immediately after the draw, which takes place on Wednesday and Saturday evenings at around 8.30pm on TVNZ 1.
You can find them via the MyLotto app and online www.mylotto.co.nz or at Lotto NZ retail stores and New Zealand Herald.
Winners with physical lottery tickets must still visit a Lotto retailer to claim their prize.
To win the Powerball jackpot, the ticket holder must correctly guess all six Lotto numbers plus the added Powerball number.
If no one claims the jackpot tonight, the prize money will accumulate in each draw until someone wins.
Before the New Zealand Lotto draw, the longest Powerball jackpot run was 24 consecutive draws.
If more than one person wins the Powerball, the jackpot is divided equally among the winning tickets.
