An intelligence-led operation by the Special Branch and 4B Regional Police Squad around 4.50pm yesterday led to the arrest of a 29-year-old police constable with 9.60kg of drugs in his possession.
The police released a statement today saying that during the operation, police stopped a white Toyota Premio sedan with registration number PYY 4027 on Eden Public Road, East Bank Demerara. The driver, a 29-year-old male constable from Linden, was searched by police.
The officer admitted that there were drugs in the vehicle. When police searched the trunk of the vehicle, they found a cardboard box with two large packages wrapped in plastic. Police said the packages contained suspected marijuana leaves, seeds and stems.
The officer was informed of the charges and given a warning, but he remained silent. The drugs weighed 9.60 kg. The drugs were marked, sealed and stored. The officer was detained.
