Libreville, Tuesday, June 25, 2024 (Gabon News) – The Head of State, General Brice Clotaire Origi Nguema, received on Monday, June 24, the National Electronic Identity Card (CNIE) from the Minister of the Interior and Security, Herman Imongo.

“I am happy to announce that you can now apply to get the National Electronic ID Card! I got mine today. This is the major breakthrough we have been anxiously waiting for,” said Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.

After compiling the application documents for the National Electronic Identity Card (CNIE) and registering it last Saturday in Lambaréné, the Transitional President received his CNIE badge at the Directorate General of Documents and Immigration (DGDI). He was accompanied by First Lady Zita Origi Nguema, who also received her CNIE.

The Ministry of the Interior noted that the receipt of the CNIE by the President of the Republic means the official launch of activities for the production of the new national identity card.

Remember that the issuance of the National Identity Card (CNI) has been suspended for nearly ten (10) years for reasons that no one has been able to provide reliable answers to. Gabonese citizens are satisfied with just receiving a receipt for their CNI application. This situation creates frustration and may lead to other problems in the long run.

Nevertheless, on August 30, 2023, the day after the institution he heads, the Transition and Restoration Commission (CTRI), took over power, General Brice Clotaire Origi Nguema promised to provide the population with a reliable and secure national identity card.

Apparently, the delivery of this document marks the fulfillment of its promise, which makes those who were beginning to lose patience very happy.
