MEMPHIS, Tenn. (LPL) – Artist Carlos Valverde was commissioned to create a mural in downtown where musical figures who left their footprints are appreciated.
The mural, sponsored by mvp3studios, features figures such as Elvis Presley, Ritchie Valens and Bobby Blue Bland.
“For me, painting in downtown Memphis is a chance to show the history of the city. To remember the echoes and legacy of past lives through struggle, music, and hard work. Back to when the Chickasaw Tribe lived on the banks of the Memphis River, back to industrialization and the hard work of the black community in downtown Memphis, back to being the Soul City. Well, there is a lot of soul and work in my art, and I aspire to unite the community through it and represent the Latino workers of Memphis,” the artist states.
The work is still a work in progress and can be viewed at the Cotton Museum, 65 Union Avenue, Memphis, TN 38103.
