Beijing: A landslide destroyed houses and collapsed a highway bridge in southwest China on Saturday (August 3), killing at least two people and leaving about 17 missing, authorities said.
“Local flash floods and landslides” swept parts of Ridi village in the Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan province, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
The disaster has left two people dead and 12 missing, CCTV reported, adding that “the disaster situation is being further verified.”
In a separate statement, the local government of Ganzi Prefecture said “sudden flash floods and landslides” caused the collapse of a highway tunnel bridge on the Kangding-Luding road.
The government said on social media that as of 11 a.m., officials had confirmed that at least three cars had fallen into the road with six people on board, of whom “one was rescued and five were missing.”
The report also stated, “At present, multiple rescue teams have arrived at the scene to carry out work.”
It is not clear whether the two incidents are related.
