Two days ago, heavy rains caused a landslide on the west side of a trail between Aimeliik and Ngatpang intersections in Babeltuab. The landslide was announced by the Palau Public Safety Bureau on its social media pages and Eco Paradise FM at 7:50 pm that night. The post was widely shared on social media.
Landslides have blocked access to Koror Island from most of the West Coast states, Ngademao, Ngelengi and Ngatpang. Earlier, the government announced that traffic would be diverted to the east side of Babeltuapu Island.
Workers cleared the landslide yesterday, using a fire truck to spray mud off the road, according to Public Security Director Mekeleos.
Isebong, PPUC public information officer, said the landslide did not damage any utility poles or disturb power lines.
Chief Mekeleos reported that this was the only landslide that had occurred as of yesterday. However, with continued heavy rainfall, more landslides are possible and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any landslides by calling 775-4147.
