Mathiveri MP Hassan Zareer said the previous PDP government had crippled Sri Lanka’s small and medium enterprises.
While receiving a report from the Committee on Amendment of the Business Registration Law, MP Jalil said that many businesses that received works in the previous government were not paid for their works. In fact, he said, the money was deposited into the accounts of those who did not work.
Jalil said the previous government directly insulted small and medium-sized enterprises.
“Small businesses, the past five years have been an insult. If you don’t agree or the minister at the time doesn’t own the company, all payments are withheld,” said Jalil.
He owns his own business and has not held any government position in the past five years. That is because when the work is filmed, “commissions” are charged under various names, and sometimes the commissions paid even exceed the profits of the work.
Jalil also claimed that PHE’s travel expenses in the previous government were Rs3 lakh and Rs5 lakh, Rs1.3 lakh and Rs1.5 lakh respectively.
