New Delhi: Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh is still on the run from Punjab police, who are hunting him, officials said.
The police have launched a massive operation to nab Amritpal Singh, who, sources said, was last seen speeding away on a motorcycle in Jalandhar last night.
Four persons suspected to be close aides of Punjab-based pro-Khalistan leader Amrit Pal Singh arrived in Dibrugarh, Assam, on a special flight on Sunday morning.
A Punjab police team led by Superintendent of Police Tejbir Singh Hundal brought the four persons to Assam. Officials said they were first taken to Jorhat and later to Dibrugarh.
Tejbir Singh Hundal told the media that they would release the names of the four men later. According to local police, they are currently being held in the Dibrugarh Central Jail.
Dibrugarh deputy district commissioner Biswajit Pegu confirmed to the media that the four people initially arrested in Punjab province have been brought to the district, but did not give further details.
Punjab Police has stepped up security in the state to arrest Khalistani sympathiser Amritpal Singh, who is currently at large.
The Punjab government on Saturday launched a massive crackdown against Punjab chieftain Waris. Police arrested 78 members of the gang headed by him.
The police action took place a day before the start of Amritpal Singh’s ‘Kal Savashil’ religious procession, which was scheduled to start from Muktsar district.
Security measures have been tightened in many places in Punjab and intensive checks on vehicles have been carried out.
Amritsar Rural MSP Satinder Singh informed on Sunday that they arrested seven suspects yesterday in connection with Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh. They have registered a case against Amritpal and his aides. “Six illegal 12 bore weapons were recovered from their possession,” he added.
Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj on Sunday said the Punjab police were doing their job and would be able to complete the manhunt for fugitive Amritpal Singh.

Security has been stepped up at the Himachal Pradesh-Punjab border to combat Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh. Una police has set up several roadblocks and deployed heavy police force at Bhasari, Marwari, Santoshgarh and Mehatpur on the Himachal Pradesh-Punjab border.
A month ago, Amitpal Singh and his supporters stormed a police station with knives and guns, demanding the release of one of his aides. Six police officers were injured in the clashes.
Following the incident, the Punjab government faced severe criticism over the law and order situation in the state.
Amritpal Singh heads ‘Waris Punjab De’, a militant group founded by actor and activist Deep Sidhu, who died in a road accident in February last year.
Amitpal Singh, who is often escorted by armed supporters and has made public statements declaring independence from India and the formation of Khalistan, has maintained close ties with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence, and terrorist groups based abroad, officials said.
