Royals vs. Flames for championship; Jets vs. Raiders for third place

Kaieteur Sports – The Victory Valley Royals, who are so far undefeated in the Under-23 Basketball Championships where Kevin ‘2feet’ Joseph and the No. 13 team advanced, will look to claim another basketball title in the mining town of Linden when they play the final against the Block 22 Flames tomorrow night (Saturday) at the championship venue, Amelia’s Ward Hard Court.

Basketball fans will be heading to the Amelia District in droves as two teams from the Weismar Linden Coast advance to the finals after defeating their Eastern District opponents in the semifinals. Although the Royals beat the Flames 57-34 in the round-robin match, they must think they can break the Royals’ winning streak.

The Royals defeated the Jets 74-50 in the semifinals, with Kobe Tappin once again proving his worth by leading the scoring with 27 points, and Stephen George (22 points) and Rashad Hinds (13 points) also playing well.

The best performer for the losing Jets was Shawntez Campbell, who scored a game-high 30 points.

In the other semifinal, the Flames defeated the Retrieve Raiders with a solid 68-58 score, with Lerone Joseph scoring 21 points, Jonathan Clarke adding 20 points and Jumane Reynolds scoring nine points.

The Raiders were led by Shemar Savoury, who scored a game-high 29 points, and Damian Vincent added 10 points.

The third-place game between the Raiders and Jets was a rematch of an earlier game, which the Raiders won 59-51, but again at home, the Jets looked to avenge that loss with a win.

The tournament trophies and medals are at stake, according to organizers, who said there will be a halftime show between the third-place game (Raiders and Jets) starting at 6:30 p.m. and the final between the Royals and Flames at 8:30 p.m.
