Kerica Hill dominates sprint hurdles semi-final to win another gold medal at the World U20 Championships

Jamaica’s Kerica Hill is on track to add another gold medal for her country World Under-20 Championships in Lima, PeruShe had a strong performance in the women’s 100m hurdles semifinal on Thursday.

HILL, Defending champion and world number onewon the semifinals in 13.00 seconds, the fastest time before Friday’s final. Her closest competitor, Mia Wild of Croatia, was behind in 13.24 seconds.

While Hill was in great form and expected to win, her teammate Habiba Harris failed to advance to the finals. Harris finished third in the semifinals with a time of 13.64 seconds, finishing 11th overall and out of medal contention.

Hall qualifies for final

In the men’s 110m hurdles, Jamaican Richard Hall qualified for the final. Hall finished second in the semifinals behind American Jacoby Sapp in 13.11 seconds, fifth overall, while Sapp set a world best under 20 time. Unfortunately, Jamaican Daniel Beckford failed to qualify, finishing sixth in the semifinals in 13.80 seconds, fifteenth overall.

Shanoa Douglas is another Jamaican who will compete in the finals on Friday. Douglas, who leads the world in the women’s 200m, finished second in her semifinal in 23.51 seconds. She was the fifth-fastest qualifier to reach the final. Australia’s Tori Lewis won her semifinal in 23.27 seconds. Meanwhile, Sabrina Dockery finished fourth in her semifinal in 23.75 seconds, ninth overall and just out of the finals.

In the men’s 200m, Jamaica’s hopes were dashed as Romario Hines, the only Jamaican to make it past the preliminaries, finished fourth in the semifinals in 21.68 seconds, 18th overall and out of the finals.

Mixed feelings

In the field events, Jamaican athletes had mixed results. High jumper Shaniqua Williams failed to qualify with a score of 1.77 meters and finished 21st. In the men’s triple jump, Chavez Penn finished 11th in the final with a best score of 14.71 meters. New Zealander Ethan Olivier won the gold medal with an amazing score of 17.01 meters.

Jamaica will advance in the relay events today, with heats for both the 4×100m and 4×400m relays taking place.

Finally, three Jamaican runners will compete for a spot in the 400m hurdles final. Kelly Ann Carr will compete in the women’s semi-final, running in lane five in round three. On the men’s side, Trevoy Smith will compete in round two and Daniel Wright will compete in the third semi-final.
