The leaders of the United Kenya coalition have announced plans to form a new political party aimed at uniting leaders seeking an alternative to the recently formed broad government.
WP leader Kalonzo Musyoka made the announcement in Kiambu County on Sunday, confirming that former President Uhuru Kenyatta supports the new party.
“Join the new movement we are creating. Make no mistake, former President Uhuru Kenyatta is with us.” Kalonzo said.
In an appeal to Mount Kenya residents, the former vice president promised Azimio to resist any move to remove Vice President Rigati Gachagua. He assured the central region of Kenya of its continued support for Gachagua’s stance.
Kalonzo’s group, which includes Jubilee Party secretary-general Jeremiah Kioni and Democratic Action Party Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, felt it was time to leave Azimyo. The decision came after former prime minister Raila Odinga’s ODM agreed to work with President William Ruto’s government.
Jeremiah Kioni of the Jubilee Party said, “The person we are following now is Kalonzo because there must be an alternative to what is happening in the country. We, the residents of this area (Mount Kenya), should open our eyes. As we walk with Kalonzo, we pray that God’s will is done.”
Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waito added, “Mr. Kalonzo Musyoka, you have brought us all back together and let us create the future GEMA together.”
