NEW JERSEY (TELEMONDO) – New Jersey Democratic Senator Bob Menendez, one of the most influential Latino politicians in the U.S. in recent decades, was convicted of accepting bribes to secretly help the governments of Egypt and Qatar in Africa after using his influence to enrich three New Jersey businessmen following a trial that lasted more than a month in federal court in New York.

The jury unanimously found Menendez guilty of all 16 charges he faced, according to the verdict read in a courtroom packed with members of the public, lawyers and reporters.

NEW YORK (Al Jazeera) – US Senator Bob Menendez has been found guilty of all 16 counts in a high-profile bribery trial in New York, including corruption and acting as an unregistered foreign agent.

The Manhattan federal court jury reached its verdict after deliberating for more than 12 hours over three days.

After the verdict was read, Menendez rested his elbows on the table, clasped his hands and looked straight ahead. He later said he planned to appeal.
