JPS delivers on $45 million commitment to fight COVID-19

$10 million bill support is underway

As part of the COVID-19 relief program, JPS delivered on its promise to provide a total of $10 million in bill payment support and care packages to senior and disabled customers who applied for this benefit. The program was oversubscribed with more than 7,000 applicants, less than half of whom met the required qualifications. Despite the oversubscription, the company decided that all eligible applicants would receive some level of bill payment assistance and payment deferrals until the end of May. Many senior, disabled and other needy customers also received care packages under the JPS COVID-19 relief program.

This is the latest in a series of commitments that JPS has delivered to support its customers and governments in dealing with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The company also recently received a $35 million donation of COVID-19 diagnostic machines and 7,500 test kits from shareholder Korea EWP. The donation will increase UHWI’s testing capacity by almost 400% from 200 tests per day to 986 tests per day.

JPS is also working with the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) and JUTA to provide transportation services for healthcare workers.

“We recognize that COVID-19 has brought both economic and health challenges to Jamaica. So while we support national efforts to accelerate testing to curb the spread of the virus, we are also taking steps to help our customers,” said Emanuel DaRosa, JPS President and CEO. “In addition to supporting seniors and people with disabilities, we are working with other customers who are having difficulty paying their bills. We have been offering flexible payment terms to those who have lost income, giving them more time to pay their bills. We are all in this together. Customers who need assistance should contact us so we can work with them during this challenging time,” said JPS CEO.
