Nyasa Times can reliably confirm through investigations that John Bizwick, who is serving as the second term Director General, is not eligible for reappointment or contract renewal as per Section 17 (4) of the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) Act.

The law prohibits him from renewing his contract or being rehired because he had held the position from 2012 to 2014. Upon investigation, it was found that the DPP government had given him all the benefits consistent with his position when it removed him from his position as Director of Security.
However, this contradicts reports circulating on social media and various forums which suggest that Bizwick is eligible for re-election for one term as his initial contract was terminated prematurely.
Meanwhile, government management expert Willy Kambwandira said authorities should abide by the law when appointing the MRA director.
“Malawians expect the entire process to be transparent and fair so that competent and qualified people can lead the MRA,” he said.
In summary, under Section 17 of the MRA Act, the Director-General shall be appointed for a term of four years and may be reappointed for a further term of four years.
The law aims to ensure continuity of leadership to ensure sustainability in the implementation of the domestic revenue mobilization strategy.
During his initial tenure, Bizwick served in the position from June 2012 to July 2014 and received all benefits, meaning he fully completed his term.
