Tokyo: Japan’s unprecedented Major Earthquake Early Warning The outbreak has led to thousands of hotel cancellations in areas classified as high-risk, hoteliers said on Tuesday (Aug 13), dealing a heavy blow to the hospitality industry during what should have been one of its busiest seasons.

The Meteorological Bureau said last week that Magnitude 7.1 Earthquake A natural disaster struck the southern region on Thursday, injuring at least 15 people.

This is the first advisory report of its kind. It doesn’t mean a huge earthquake is about to happen. But authorities say the risk of such an incident has now risen, although it remains low.

The warning concerns the so-called Nankai Trough, an 800-kilometer seafloor area stretching from Shizuoka, west of Tokyo, to the southern tip of Kyushu Island.

In western Kochi, one of the worst-hit areas expected to be affected, at least 9,400 people have cancelled their hotel reservations since the alert was issued last week, according to local hotel unions.

Union representative Susumu Nishitani told AFP the canceled flights between August 9 and August 18 amounted to about 140 million yen ($948,000) in lost revenue.
