Jamuna Port imports potato worth USD 100 billion in a year

Khajura (Banke), July 10. In one year, potatoes worth Rs 1016 million were imported from India through the Jamuna border at Banke.

From July 2080 to mid-June 2081, 40 million 490 million rupees and 84,669 kilograms of potatoes were imported.

Purna Prasad Ramsar, information officer at Nepalgunj Customs Office, said the value of potatoes imported in the last fiscal year increased by Rs 18 million compared to the 2079/80 fiscal year.

In the 2079/80 fiscal year, 377 million 85,000 kg of potatoes were imported, valued at 936 million 69,000 kg.

Sakil Ahmed, head of Krishi Gyan Kendra, said that although the potato production in Banke, Bardia, Dang, Salyan and other districts has increased significantly, the import from India has not decreased.

According to him, although the government is implementing various schemes to achieve self-sufficiency in potato and onion, imports have not decreased.
