Paris France — Jamaica is about to announce the medal table on the second day of track and field competition at the Paris Olympics. Stade de France.
There will be three finals on Saturday and Jamaica has great medal hopes, especially in the women’s 100m final later in the day.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Tia Clayton and Shashalee Forbes have all qualified for the 100m semifinals. In the first round, Forbes will compete against Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith, Melissa Jefferson of the United States and Dina Asher-Smith of the United Kingdom. In the second round, Fraser-Pryce will face Julien Alfred of St. Lucia and Sha’Carri Richardson of the United States. Clayton will face Daryll Neita, Audrey Leduc, Twanisha Terry and Leah Bertrand in the third round.

The top two players from each semifinal and the two fastest losers will advance to the final, which will be played in about 90 minutes.

In the women’s triple jump final, Shanika Ricketts Akelia Smith will represent Jamaica in the event at 8:20 p.m. (2:20 p.m. ET). Ricketts, who clinched her spot by one jump on Friday, is aiming for a podium finish, while Smith fell short of the qualifying standard but is hoping for a strong performance.
Jamaica’s 4x400m mixed relay team of Reheem Hayles, Junelle Bromfield, Zandrion Barnes and Stephenie Ann McPherson set a new national record in 3:11.06 minutes. They were among the two fastest losers to qualify for the finals, which will begin at 8:55 p.m. (3:55 p.m. east coast time). The United States set a new world record in the preliminaries with a time of 3:07.41 minutes.
Men’s Discus Throw Final
Rajendra Campbell will also compete in the men’s discus final at 7:35 p.m. (2:35 p.m. ET). Meanwhile, Sabrina Lim will compete in the women’s 50m freestyle preliminaries at 11 a.m. (5 a.m. ET) at the Paris La Défense Arena.
Additionally, sprinters Kishane Thompson, Oblique Seville and Akeem Blake will compete in the men’s 100m preliminaries at 11:55 a.m. (5:55 a.m. East Coast time).
With a packed schedule and a host of competitors, the Jamaican team is looking forward to a promising day of competition, hoping to win its first medal of the Games.
