The Yiyi Party, which entered parliament with 44 deputies in the general election, has been in a constant decline last year due to resignations and expulsions. The Yiyi Party seat in Turkey’s Grand National Assembly has not been calm since the Extraordinary Congress was held after the election defeat, and the seats were reduced to 35. After Korey Aydin received nearly half of the votes of the deputies in the controversial congress, but lost to Musavat Dervisoglu in the leadership race, the discussion within the party continues. Finally, Aydin is preparing to resign, having severely criticized the party management. Former chairman Meral Aksena met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Royal Palace, but did not make any statement on the content of the meeting. Aydin is said to be announcing his resignation in a harsh statement on his social media accounts tonight. Aydin’s resignation statement will allegedly include statements about the wrong policies followed in the local election process and the events that took place in the parliamentary process.
Possibility of switching to DP
Following Aydin, many party members, including former MPs and GıK members, are expected to announce their resignations. It is also reported that with Aydin’s resignation, the number of current MPs will decrease. There are rumors in the background that with the departure of several party members, including Aydin, there will be a major “split” in the “Islamic Party”. Party sources pointed out that Aydin and his team will be independent for a while, but will develop a roadmap for the 2028 general elections. Some party members also said that the possibility of “transferring to the Democratic Party” is still on the agenda. However, the obstacle to transferring to the Democratic Party is said to be that Gültkin Uysal does not want to give up the chairmanship.
“Nothing was passed down to us”
Musavat Dervişoglu, leader of the IYI party, answered questions from journalists after speaking at a panel meeting of Turkey’s Grand National Assembly. Regarding allegations that Aydin would quit the party, he said: “We have not received any news. Our friends in the press act on what they hear. “If there is something true, we will share it,” he said.
