Israel-Hamas war: 212 Indians return home safely

New Delhi: India has launched ‘Operation Ajay’ to bring back its citizens from Israel, where a war is raging with Hamas. The first flight carrying 212 Indians landed in Delhi on Friday and was greeted by Union Minister Rajiv Chandrasekhar in Delhi. He praised the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar for ensuring the safety of Indians in Israel. He also interacted with students who were among the passengers.

The returning Indians expressed gratitude to the Indian government and hoped for peace in the region. They said they were facing difficult situations in Israel due to the conflict. Indian Ambassador to Israel Sanjeev Singla said the embassy was constantly trying to help Indians who wanted to return home. He said another flight would take off on Saturday with more passengers. He urged Indians in Israel to remain calm and follow local safety advisories.

Arindam Bagchi, a spokesman for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, said there were no Indian casualties in Operation Ajay, which Jaishankar announced on Thursday. He said there are about 18,000 Indians in Israel and the Ministry of External Affairs is closely monitoring the situation. He advised Indians to follow the advice issued by the embassy. The embassy has also set up a helpline for Indian citizens who need help.

Operation Ajay was launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring about 18,000 Indians back to Israel. Registration of Indians began on Thursday. The Indian Embassy in Israel is offering assistance to Indian companies and has set up a hotline for Indian citizens who need help.

In view of the escalating conflict, the Ministry of External Affairs has set up a 24-hour control room. The control room will help monitor the situation and provide information and assistance. Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar chaired a meeting to review the preparations for Operation Ajay.
