Poomsae is a non-combat and highly competitive martial arts technique consisting of a series of pre-arranged defensive and offensive movements.

The 18-year-old is one of three British athletes selected to compete in the men’s individual under-30 competition in November this year.

He said:

“I’m very proud to have been selected and I will do my best in the competition. My ultimate goal is to compete in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, so I want to take every opportunity to develop and improve myself. I would also like to thank my parents for their support over the years, as well as Master Rod Nelson.”

Nino has been practicing taekwondo since the age of five and recently won the gold medal at the International Open Poomsae Taekwondo Championships in London.

MHK Chief Minister Alfred Cannan said:

“It is a great achievement and I am sure Nino will be very proud to represent the Isle of Man and Team GB. It is inspiring to see a Manx athlete setting his sights on the Olympic Games in four years’ time.”

The World Poomsae Championships will be held in Kowloon on November 30.
