The Ministry of Infrastructure has amended its submission for the Northern and Western Regions, removing reference to a possible future expansion of Jurby Airport and Revised manuscript published online.

Jurby Airport and the land surrounding it has been protected since 2004. The Department of Infrastructure will engage with the local community in the autumn to fully explain the need to continue to protect the land around the airport and what expansion, if any, would mean for the people living and working in and around Jurby.

The Airport Master Plan, currently being developed, will explore plans to improve and enhance existing facilities in the southern part of the island and will include the role Juby Airport currently plays and what measures may be needed in the long-term future to ensure the island’s air connectivity is protected.

There are no current plans to expand Jurby Airport. Continued land conservation ensures the island will provide a long-term backup to Ronaldsway Airport if needed.

This means that the Northern and Western regional plans will be amended as follows:

  • Remove Jurby Airport protection from the zoning constraint map
  • Removal of transport and utility recommendations from draft planning written statement 5
  • 10.7 Complete Replacement
