Isle of Man Government – Request for donations for treatment programme

[ad_1]

The Isle of Man Care Centre’s Acute Mental Health Service is asking for donations to support activities and treatment within the Glen Suite.

The Glen Suite provides residential care for older people with mental health issues such as depression and dementia. As part of the initiative, the service is looking for material that sparks reminiscence and nostalgia.

Research shows that the benefits of reminiscence- and nostalgia-based therapies and activities are significant. From reducing stress and anxiety, to improving mood, confidence and self-esteem, to improving physical health and daily functioning, they can also provide some comfort and familiarity in unfamiliar surroundings.

The team is looking for the following people:

  • Old “local” photos
  • Old magazine/newspaper articles
  • Vintage items, such as rulers, etc.
  • Old Camera/Phone
  • Antique Household Items (Non-Electrical)
  • Any “Isle of Man” items

Collections will take place between 1 July 2024 and 31 July 2024, with items being dropped off at the reception at Manannan Court, the former site of Noble’s Hospital.

If you are unsure whether your item will fit into the Glen Suite, please email Tania in advance. Tania.Linden@gov.im

Tania Linden, Operations Manager for Acute Mental Health Services, commented:

“We are asking for nostalgic donations as this will really help us with our treatment programmes and bring comfort and warmth to those who are in hospital. The mere mention of activities such as Etch-A-Skate, Roller Disco and Play School brings back many happy memories and warm feelings – something we can all relate to.

If we’re lucky, we’ll all get older, so this is as much an investment in our future as it is in our family and friends.”
