Both winning designs highlight the importance of smoke detectors in saving lives.
The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service (IOMFRS) invited all local schools to take part in a poster design competition earlier this year, which was also accompanied by quizzes and games related to fire safety.
The winning designs from primary and secondary schools will be printed and used as part of the official fire prevention campaign. They will be displayed around the island and on social media to help promote fire safety.
Richard Little, Chief Fire Officer and Fire Prevention Officer, said:
“The response from schools has been fantastic! We received so many entries from schools and it was clear how much effort students put into their hand-drawn designs. It was so difficult to choose just two winners and we’d like to thank everyone who took part.”
Hundreds of entries were carefully reviewed and the winners chosen with the assistance of Fire Commissioner Mark Christian and Interior Chief Executive Dan Davies.
Ava’s design for Cronk-y-Berry Primary School was selected for its colourful, eye-catching key fire safety message, while Stevee’s design for St Ninian’s High School was chosen for its clear, simple message on the importance of smoke detection.
The winners received a framed version of their completed poster and a guided tour of the Douglas Fire Station.
IOMFRS hopes these posters will inspire residents to ensure they have the right smoke detectors and Assess your own home with a free online home fire safety tool.
