Manx Care is inviting carers to share their experiences and help shape future standards of care for people with dementia.

The first in the series of “In Your Shoes” sessions will be March 19, 2024 As part of an organisation-wide initiative, the programme aims to improve the quality of experience for every service user, carer and family member across the services provided by Manx Care.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet nurses, physicians, leaders, and other healthcare professionals and speak face to face about their real-life experiences.

Karen Maddox, head of experience and engagement, encouraged people to come forward and speak publicly about their experiences.

she says:

“For this inaugural event, we’re really keen to hear carers’ experiences and views, whether they’ve had a positive experience or if they feel there’s room for improvement. This is a real opportunity for carers to share their stories and influence the future of care locally.”

She added:

“We really hope people will want to take part in these courses; we need their help because only by listening and learning can we improve and provide the right service at the right time and place. The ‘In Your Shoes’ course gives us this opportunity.”

Each session will last approximately two hours and involve up to 20 service users, carers, families and staff, who will discuss experiences individually or in groups, with refreshments provided.

The first event is scheduled as follows:

Tuesday, March 19, 2024
10am to 12pm

11 Tynwald Street, Douglas
