The future of waste management on the Isle of Man is the subject of an ongoing public consultation.

People are welcome to give their views on the way the Isle of Man Government and local authorities deal with domestic, commercial, agricultural and industrial waste.

All feedback received will help develop the Isle of Man Waste Strategy, which is a key objective of our Island Plan, with the priority theme of ‘an environment we can be proud of’.

Topics being explored include household waste collection, prevention and reduction, reuse and recycling, energy recovery, incineration and landfilling.

Infrastructure Minister Tim Crookall MHK said:

“Developing a strong and coherent waste strategy is a vital opportunity for this government to lay a strong foundation for future generations to live and work on the Isle of Man. The department is looking at how current practices can be improved and is considering establishing centralised recycling and household waste collection centres to reduce costs, as well as standardising household waste services and maximising recycling rates.”

He added:

“The information gathered during the consultation will help develop a draft waste strategy which will be submitted to Tynwald Council later this year and I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved.”

The consultation document can be viewed and completed at the following website: Government Consultation Network

If you require an accessible version of this consultation or support reading and responding, please leave a message on +44 1624 639770. You can also collect a paper copy from Waste Management, 2nd Floor, Markwell House, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM1 2RZ.

The process will end on Monday, September 30, 2024.
