Isle of Man Government – 999 Day pays tribute to emergency services

The island’s emergency service workers are being honoured as part of national ‘999 Day’.

As part of this special day, the men and women who provide lifesaving and emergency services were recognised for their outstanding work.

D-Day

Every day, these service members respond to a variety of emergencies, from medical distress, fires, road accidents to missing persons. They often work in difficult conditions, terrain or weather.

999 daysalso known as Since 2018, the UK has started to hold the “Emergency Services Day” event..

The Isle of Man also took part in the event this year and local services recognised included: Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Servicethis Isle of Man Policethis Isle of Man Ambulance Servicethis Emergency Services Joint Control Roomthis Isle of Man Civil Defence,as well as Isle of Man Coast Guard.

As part of the celebrations, a series of ‘behind the scenes’ social media posts were shared on the Isle of Man Government’s social media pages. These short videos highlight various services, what they do and how they interact with the public.

New Chief Superintendent Russ Foster appears in one of the videosIn an interview, he spoke about the integrated approach of the island’s emergency services. He said:

“The collaboration across the island is really strong, especially with the emergency services… When we need to mobilise resources and deal with major incidents and critical events, I think we work very well together.”

Home Office Minister Jane Poole-Wilson said:

“We are proud to join the UK in celebrating 999 Day, recognising the hard work and commitment of our emergency services.

“I would like to express my gratitude to our emergency services personnel who work tirelessly to help keep our communities safe. They are a fundamental part of island life and 999 Days allows us to recognise their contribution to our islands.”
