Ishmael Quiroz becomes new Executive Director of BELTRAIDE

Ishmael Quiroz will take over the position of Executive Director of Beltraide on Monday, August 19. Quiroz succeeds Dr. Leroy Almendarez, who will move to the new position of Chief Executive Officer of the Social Security Board. The 43-year-old CEO has more than 13 years of experience in operational management and socio-economic development, having served as Executive Director of the Economic Development Board since 2021. Quiroz said he enjoys this new position and is looking forward to working with small and medium-sized businesses as well as entrepreneurs. He noted that this move is very symbolic for him as it marks his 20th anniversary as Investment Officer at Beltraide.

Ishmael Quiroz, the new Executive Director of BELTRAIDE, said: “I am very excited about the opportunity and the role. I am very honoured to have been given this opportunity but very much looking forward to continuing to work and building on what has been done previously. With a background in private sector development and particularly business climate reforms, we hope to be able to really step up the pace and contribute to the development of Belize. I think our first priority is to engage with stakeholders across all sectors, including the public sector, private sector, civil society and our international partners to ensure that they are aware and convinced of the existence of the Belize Trade and Investment Promotion Commission, which is an important organisation with a mandate that includes investment promotion and export promotion, MSME development, innovation and capacity building, among others, so I think it really facilitates ample opportunities for meaningful collaboration and I think that will be one of the main things we will be doing in the short term. So reaching out to people and making sure they know what we are doing, what are the priority projects that are being undertaken and being considered and really drawing attention from all sectors to the work that we are doing. The feedback has been very good, which is very encouraging. It is also very humbling. The work speaks for itself. You know I have been able to develop quite a business acumen and it is interesting that I have come full circle. I will be joining BELTRAIDE This is my first job since returning to Belize after graduating from college, so in a way it feels like coming home.”

Quiroz holds a Master of Science in Economics from Galen University, England, and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Anglia Ruskin University, Essex, England.
