The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) and other banks were targeted in a major cyberattack on Wednesday that caused widespread disruption to the country’s banking system, Iran International reported.

It is understood that all bank computer systems in the country were paralyzed after the cyber attack. Preliminary assessments show that this may be one of the largest cyber attacks ever against Iran’s national infrastructure.
Western message?
According to the Jerusalem Post, the cyberattack was likely a message from Western countries to Iran, conveying a message showing how Iran will be harmed.
The last cyberattack on Iranian institutions took place in December, when a large number of gas stations in the country were damaged in a cyberattack that the Iranians blamed on Israel and the United States.
Israeli media later reported that a piece of paper was taped to the ATM in Iran, which read: “Dear customer, it is not possible to withdraw money from this ATM. This is because all of Iran’s national budget and resources are allocated to the Islamic Republic regime’s wars and corrupt religious leaders. We are very sorry.”
According to Iran International, data was stolen during the attack.
