US President Joe Biden said he condemned Karim Khan Sarnavar’s request to the International Criminal Court for an arrest warrant for the Israeli leader, calling the request insulting.
Karim Khan said in a statement yesterday (Monday, 31st) that he supports Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yov Galant and one of the leaders of Hamas, Mohammed Masri, Yahya Ibrahim Sinwar, commander of Hamas’s military wing and head of its political office Ismail Haniyeh have requested arrest warrants on war crimes charges.
The United States and the European Union recognize Hamas as a terrorist organization.
Karim Khan said this in a statement issued seven months after the war in Gaza, Reuters reported.
Biden said in a Palestinian Authority statement that there was no equality between Israel and Hamas.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also warned that the move would harm Gaza ceasefire talks.
Israel and the Palestinian authorities have previously denied accusations of war crimes.
According to Reuters, Netanyahu and Galant were charged with multiple crimes, including starving civilians as a tactic of war, inflicting suffering and killing or treating killing as a war crime.
Three Hamas leaders face various charges including responsibility for sabotage and murder, hostage-taking, torture, sexual assault and other acts of violence.
Now, before trial, a panel of judges will determine whether the evidence will lead to the issuance of an arrest warrant.
